Re-Focus

Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

What does this really mean? Is this saying, if I don’t like my financial situation that I should not try to do better? I don’t think so. I think many people confuse this verse. When you read the verse carefully it says keep your lives free from the love of money. The love of money will get you in trouble. When you love money, your life starts to revolve around it. When your life is preoccupied with getting money it cannot be focused on God at the same time (Matthew 6:24). We have to be very careful in our “pursuit of happiness.” We have to acknowledge God in all our ways and He will show us the road to success (Proverbs 3:6).

The verse goes on the say to be content with what you have. This may be hard because as a society we are taught from an early age to always strive to be better and to have more. Well that is well and good as long as God is in the middle. When God is in the focus of your life your desire for “more” won’t turn into greed.

Take a self-assessment of your needs and wants. Do you have everything you need? Do your wants consume you? Do you have peace or are you always searching for that next thing to make you happy?

Remember we are not here to pay bills and die. We are not here to acquire as many “things” as we can and die. We are here to love God and one another. When your success clouds what we are really here to do, it’s time to re-access your life and how you spend your time.

Think about it like this, if you were told you have 2 more years to live what would you do with your time? I imagine you would still work to have a roof over your head, eat and pay utilities, but would about the other stuff? Would the stuff you are stressing over right now be the same if you knew when your end was? If the answer is no, then take another look at what you are doing. Give it to God.

God said He will never leave or forsake you. You must believe that. If you believe that then you will start to have the peace that only God can give. You may even start to concentrate on your health instead of your wealth. When you are connected to the owner of all of this, your Father will meet your needs according to the riches of His glory! You can’t top God in riches! Let the Lord bless you and you will be truly blessed in ways you could not imagine or even think of for yourself.

If you haven’t already, accept Christ as your personal Savior and began to live! Continue to Be Blessed!

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in the name of Jesus. We thank You for Your mercy and Your grace. We praise You for being our God! Lord, we repent of our sins, anything not like You, we repent. We ask that You forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Thank You, Father, for Your forgiveness.

Lord, we thank You for Your Word that You have so graciously given us. Thank You for Salvation which is the Greatest Gift one could receive! Lord, sometimes we struggle to be content. We get wrapped up into what the world has to offer and lose focus of You. Lord, we ask that You help us focus. Your Word says You will keep us in perfect peace if we keep our minds on You. Thank You, Father. Help us, Lord.

Lord, we surrender to Your Will. We ask that Your Holy Spirit guide our thoughts so our speech and actions reflect You. We will forever give You praise, honor, and glory.

In Jesus name, we ask and pray,

Amen
